Stick drift: controller repair
The character walks on its own, the camera turns without anyone touching it: that is “stick drift”, wear of the joystick's potentiometer. We replace the stick, or fit a Hall-effect stick that can no longer drift.
What we repair on controllers
- Drifting stick: one stick, or the pair.
- Hall-effect stick: magnetic, contactless sensor, so no wear; recommended if you play a lot.
- Triggers that are soft, stuck or unresponsive (L2/R2, LT/RT, the DualSense adaptive triggers).
- Battery that no longer lasts, torn USB-C charging port.
- Joy-Con rail that disconnects.
Why it drifts
A classic stick uses two potentiometers with a resistive track. With rubbing, the track wears and reports a false position even at rest. Sprays and recalibration only delay the inevitable. A Hall-effect stick measures position with a magnet: nothing rubs, nothing wears.
Same day
A controller is repaired in under an hour when the stick is in stock. Drop it off by appointment in Miélan, or send it: it is small, light, and the return is included.
