PS5 HDMI port repair
Your PS5 turns on, the light goes white, the TV says “no signal”. In the vast majority of cases the console is not dead: it is the HDMI connector, torn or lifted from the logic board. We replace it by micro-soldering at the Miélan workshop, with a new part and a twelve-month warranty.
Symptoms of a faulty HDMI port
- No picture at all, although the console turns on and the controller connects.
- The picture only appears when you press on the cable or hold it at a precise angle.
- Picture that flickers, drops out intermittently, or turns black and white.
- The connector is visibly pushed in, bent, or a pin is broken.
- The console drops into “safe mode” or asks to change resolution for no reason.
The HDMI port of a PS5 is soldered straight onto the logic board, with very fine pins. A yanked cable, a console that falls while plugged in, a child forcing the plug: once is enough.
What we do at the workshop
Diagnosis under the microscope: we check that the connector really is the cause and that the board traces are intact. If a trace is torn off we rebuild it; that is what separates a real repair from a simple part swap.
Desoldering and fitting a new connector at the hot-air station, then checking every pin. We then test the console on a 4K screen and over a long session to make sure nothing moves.
Full clean: the PS5 is open anyway, so we dust the fan and heatsink. On request we also renew the liquid metal on the processor (see the “overheating” repair).
Why this is a workshop speciality
Few workshops in the Gers and the Hautes-Pyrénées repair at component level: most offer to send the console far away, or to replace the whole logic board, which costs almost as much as a second-hand console.
