My phone is under two years old: manufacturer warranty or independent repairer?
Before entrusting us with a recent device, ask yourself one question: is the fault a defect, or an accident? The answer dictates what comes next.
In France, every device sold new carries a two-year legal conformity warranty with the seller. It covers defects that aren't your doing: a battery failing prematurely, a button that stops working, a screen showing lines without any impact.
When to go through the seller
If the device is under two years old and the fault looks like a defect, start with the seller or the manufacturer: the repair should be free. A repair at an independent can void the remaining manufacturer warranty, and it would be a shame to pay for what you are owed. We tell you frankly on the phone.
When an independent repair makes sense
- Breakage: drop, cracked screen, water damage. No legal warranty covers them; the manufacturer charges for the whole module, often with a board swap and data loss.
- Warranty refused: the manufacturer found a trace of moisture or impact and declined. You have the report, we take over.
- Data: the manufacturer replaces, we repair. If your photos aren't backed up, the difference matters.
- Device over two years old: the question no longer arises.
What we guarantee
Twelve months on the repair done, parts and labour. And an honest answer to “should I really entrust it to you?” before we start.
This is general information, not legal advice: for a dispute with a seller, consumer associations are the right people to talk to.
